About Sarah

I am an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, which means that I combine tools and techniques from different schools and traditions to help you with feelings of depression, stress, anxiety, anger and low self-esteem, whatever issues you bring to the session.

Based on my training, my theoretical approach is flexible and driven by your particular needs. I will be drawing upon tools and techniques from schools and traditions including Psychodynamic, Humanist, Existential, Gestalt, Transpersonal and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), integrating much so that I may best meet your needs.  For a very brief description of these different therapy modalities, see the separate page headed Integrative Psychotherapy-Types of Therapy.

I started my career in an altogether different domain – firstly in the City as a trader, then on to film and television PR. On a personal note over many years I have seen the impact of mental health issues on the lives of those affected and on their families too and have equally seen how therapy can significantly improve the lives of loved ones. I have been witness to people in my life exploring their psychological worlds and seeking greater self-awareness. This inspired me to do the same, and since taking a decision to retrain in psychotherapy, have seen how a better understanding of oneself can lead to stronger and more rewarding relationships across the board and to more fulfilling futures.

I offer both short and long-term psychotherapy or counselling in the SW London area and on the Isle of Wight.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

I trained at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in Little Venice, London W2 between 2005 and 2010. CCPE is the largest training establishment in Europe for integrative transpersonal therapy. Here I undertook its five-year postgraduate diploma, accredited by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), of which I am a member. As a member of the BACP, I am bound by its ethical code in all of my client work; this includes undertaking regular clinical supervision and further professional development. In addition I hold full professional indemnity insurance.

As part of my training, I undertook a psychiatric observational placement under the Consultant Psychiatrist for the Battersea community mental health team (CMHT) at South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust. Serving a population of 45,000 in an inner city area in southwest London with significant pockets of deprivation, the service has a clear focus is focused on serving the needs of the long term mentally ill and provided me with an invaluable insight into the care services available within the community.

Throughout my training and after, I have worked as a volunteer psychotherapist/ counsellor at ASCA (Addiction Support and Care Agency). ASCA is a charity that provides group and 1:1 counselling services for those suffering from alcoholism, substance misuse and behavioural addictions in the boroughs of Richmond and Kingston.

I also have over 20 years working with the 12 Steps of Recovery as a transformative model of development.
